Answer: 800

Let ₹x be the pocket money

Spends 3/4 of his pocket money =3/4*x= 3x/4

Remaining is= 1/4*x= x/4

Then gives 4/5 of the remaining to his sister,

= 4/5* x/4= x/5

Finally, 40 rupees left, how much did he have at first?

x/4-x/5=40/1

LCM= 20

5x/20-4x/20= 800/20

x/20=800/20

x= \frac{800}{20}*20

x= ₹800

Verification:

The 3/4 amount he spent of his pocket money:

800*\frac{3}{4}= 200*3= 600

₹600 was spent.

Remaining ₹200

The 4/5 of remaining amount he gave to his sister:

200*5/4= 200*\frac{4}{5}= 40*4= 160

₹ 160 was given.

Remaining ₹40.
