The fraction of the leftover with respect to the whole cake.

Solution,

For, an easier calculation, we will assume that the total cake is 1. Rest of the calculations will be done in normal arithmetic methods.

Now,

With respect to ½ cake the fraction is = ¾

With respect to 1 cake the fraction is = ¾ × ½ = ⅜

(Multiplication is done because it is an inverse proportion, the increasing amount of total cake will decrease the value of the fraction.)

Hence, ⅜th part of the cake is leftover.
