Given:

The series is 3, 5, 10, 20, 37,  _

To find:

The missing number.

Solution:

The pattern followed here is the double difference of the elements of the   series.

The difference of the consecutive terms of the series is 2, 5, 10, 17,

Taking the difference of the consecutive terms of 2, 5, 10, 17 again.

We get 3, 5, 7, and so on.

This shows that we get odd numbers after taking the difference twice.

The next number would be 9.

9 + 17 = 26

When 26 is added to 37 in the original series, we will get the value of the missing number.

37 + 26 = 63

The series become 3, 5, 10, 20, 37, 63.

Hence, the missing number is 63.
