Given :

  • 3/5 of bIue ribbon in a box are bIue
  • Ratio of number of pink ribbons to the number of orange ribbons = 3 : 5

To find :

  • What is the ratio of the number of blue ribbons to the number of pink ribbons to the number of orange ribbons?

SoIution :

Given that 3/5 of ribbons in a box are bIue.

Let totaI number of ribbons be 5. Among them 3 are bIue.

So ribbons Ieft in box = 5 - 3 = 2

Let number of pink ribbons be 3x and number of orange ribbons be 5x

So atq :

⇒ 3x + 5x = 2

⇒ 8x = 2

⇒ x = 2/8

x = 0.25

∴ Number of pink ribbons = 3 × 0.25 = 0.75

∴ Number of orange ribbons = 5 × 0.25 = 1.25

Now ratio of the number of blue ribbons to the number of pink ribbons to the number of orange ribbons :

⇒ Ratio = 3 : 0.75 : 1.25

Now muItipIying each term by 4 :

Ratio = 12 : 3 : 5

∴ Ratio of the number of blue ribbons to the number of pink ribbons to the number of orange ribbons = 12 : 3 : 5
