3. A 164 cm long rod is to be bend to make a rectangle . Its length should be 2 cm more than

three times its breadth .

a) What should be the perimeter of the rectangle ?

b) What should be the length and the breadth ?

breadth = x cm

length = 3x+2 cm

length of rod = 164 cm

therefore the length of the rod will be equal to the perimeter of the rectangle.

164 = 2(3x+2+x)

164 = 2(4x+2)

164/2 = 4x+2

82 = 4x+2

82-2 = 4x

80=4x

x = 80/4 = 20

length=3x+2

=3(20)+2

=60+2

=62 cm

breadth=20 cm

perimeter = 2(62+20)

=2 (82)

= 164 cm
