• Given

  • Initial velocity (u) = 50 m/s
  • Final velocity (v) = 0 m/s

• To find

  • The maximum height reached by the ball
  • The time taken to reach the maximum height

• Solution

By using the third equation of motion, we get -

  • v² - u² = 2ah

where,

  • v = Final velocity
  • u = Initial velocity
  • a = Acceleration due to gravity
  • h = height

Take a = - 10 m/s²

substitute the given values,

⇒ 0² - (50)² = 2 × - 10 × h

⇒ - 2500 = - 20 × h

⇒ 125 = h

  • Maximum height reached by the ball = 125 m

(II) Time taken to reach the maximum height.

By using the first equation of motion, we get -

  • v = u + at

⇒ 0 = 50 + (-10) × t

⇒ 0 = 50 - 10t

⇒ - 50 = - 10t

⇒ 50 = 10t

⇒ 5 = t

  • Time taken to reach the maximum height = 5 seconds.
