Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

A basket contains 7 red balls, 3 green balls and 5 yellow balls.

To find :-

Probability of obtaining

i) a red ball

ii) a blue ball , If 2 blue balls are added to the basket and 3 red balls are painted blue.

Solution :-

Given that

Number of red balls = 7

Number of green balls = 3

Number of yellow balls = 5

Total number of balls in the basket

= 7+3+5

= 15

Therefore, Number of total outcomes obtaining a ball from the basket = 15

I) Number of red balls = 7

Number of favourable outcomes obtaining a red ball = 7

We know that

Probability of an event E is P(E) =

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes

Probability of obtaining a red ball

=> P(R)= 7/15

Therefore, P(R) = 7/15

ii) Number of blue balls added = 2

Number of red balls painted blue = 3

Therefore, number of blue balls = 2+3 = 5

Number of red balls = 7-3 = 4

Total number of balls in the basket

= Red balls + blue balls + green balls + yellow balls

= 4 + 5 + 3 + 5

= 17

Number of total outcomes obtaining a ball from the basket = 17

Number of favourable outcomes obtaining a blue ball = 5

We know that

Probability of an event E is P(E) =Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes

=> P(B) = 5/17

Therefore, P(B) = 5/17

Answer :-

1) Probability of obtaining a red ball is 7/15

2) Probability of obtaining a blue ball is 5/17

Used formulae:-

Probability of an event E is P(E) =

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes
