speed =d/time

40 =  \frac{x}{15 \times  \frac{1}{4} } \\ 4  \times 15 = x \\ 60km = x

60 =  \frac{x}{15 \times  \frac{1}{4} }  \\ 15 \times 15 = x \\ 225km = x

Therefore the total distance is

d1 + d2 \\ 60 + 225 \\ 285km
