In the figure,

Dimensions of ABCD = 4 m, 3 m

Area of ABCD = Length × Breadth

⇒ Area of ABCD = 4 m × 3 m

∴ Area of chart paper = 12 m²

__________________________________________________________

A strip of 1 m is cut all around.

Let the new rectangle (remaining chart paper) formed be EFGH

Dimensions of EFGH = (4 - 1)m, (3 - 1)m

Dimensions of EFGH = 3 m, 2 m

Area of EFGH = Length × Breadth

⇒ Area of EFGH = 3 m × 2 m

★ ∴ Area of remaining chart paper = 6 m²

Area of cut out strip = (Area of ABCD) - (Area of EFGH)

⇒ Area of cut out strip = 12 m² - 6 m²

★ ∴ Area of cut out strip = 6 m²

Know more:

  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length × breadth)
