The amount of money the fruit seller received on selling all the good apples = Rs. 1780

Given :

  • A fruit seller buys 712 fruits, of which 3/4 are apples.

  • Of all the apples that he bought, 1/3 were found to be rotten.

  • He sold all the good apples at Rs. 5 each

To find :

The amount of money the fruit seller received on selling all the good apples

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Calculate the total number of apples

The fruit seller buys 712 fruits

Among 712 fruits , 3/4 are apples.

∴ The total number of apples

\displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{3}{4}   \times 712 }

\displaystyle \sf{  = 534 }

Step 2 of 2 :

Calculate the number of good apples

The total number of apples the fruit seller bought = 534

Of all the apples that he bought, 1/3 were found to be rotten.

∴ The number of rotten apples

\displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{1}{3}  \times 534  }

\displaystyle \sf{ = 178 }

∴ The total number of good apples

= 534 - 178

= 356

Step 3 of 3 :

Calculate the amount of money the fruit seller received on selling all the good apples

It is given that the fruit seller sold all the good apples at Rs. 5 each

Hence the amount of money the fruit seller received on selling all the good apples

= 356 × Rs. 5

= Rs. 1780
