The Planning Commission of India was an institution of the Government of India, whose main function was to make five-year plans. In his first Independence Day speech in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he intended to dissolve the Planning Commission. In 2014, the name of this organization was changed to NITI Aayog (National Institute for Transforming India). There is no constitutional provision regarding Planning Commission in India. The scheme was established by a resolution passed by the Union Cabinet on 15 March 1950. The Planning Commission is headed by the Prime Minister. On 13 August 2014, the Planning Commission was abolished and NITI Aayog was formed in its place. NITI Aayog is a think tank of the Government of India. The head quarter of the Planning Commission was known as Yojna Bhawan. It is in New Delhi.
