Given that, A table that measures 4.5 m by 1.5 m has to be covered by cloth where extra 30 cm of cloth should be hanging on all sides.

Since, 30 cm of cloth should be hanging on all sides of the table, Therefore,

Length of cloth = 450 + 2 × 30

⇒ Length = 450 + 60

⇒ Length = 510 cm or 5.1 m

Also,

⇒ Breadth of cloth = 150 + 2×30

⇒ Breadth = 150 + 60

⇒ Breadth = 210 cm or 2.1 m

Now that the table is in the shape of a rectangle and hence the cloth that will be used to cover the table will also be in the shape of a rectangle.

Area of cloth = Length × Breadth

⇒ Area = 5.1 × 2.1

⇒ Area = 10.71 m²

Hence, The area of the cloth required is 10.71

Some Information :-

⇒ Area of a Rectangle = Length × Breadth

Properties of a Rectangle :-

  • Each angle measures 90°
  • Opposite sides are equal and parallel.
  • Diagonals are equal.
