The baby soon falls asleep. A wolf comes by. The hound fights the wolf and kills it. He keeps the baby. Later that evening the hunter returns home. He does not find the baby on the cot. He notices blood stains on the floor and the jaws of the hound. He hastily comes to the conclusion that the hound ate his daughter. He kills the hound. Then he goes inside to find the baby safe and sound. He weeps and regrets killing his faithful hound.
