Answer : 4 m/s

Step by Step Explanation :

{\bold{For\:first\:body}}:

•Mass m1 = 2 kg

•Initial velocity u1 = 14 m/s

{\bold{For\:second\:body}}:

•Mass m2 = 5 kg

•Initial velocity u2 = 0 [ as its at rest ]

Now , we know that the equation involved with such collision when the bodies stick together is given by

{\boxed{\bold{m1u1 + m2u2 = (m1 + m2)v}}}

Where v is the combined velocity acquired by the bodies.

➡Plugging the values :

=> 2 × 14 + 5 × 0 = ( 5 + 2) × v

=> 28 = 7v

→ v = 28/7 = 4

{\sf{\underline{Speed\:of\:the\:combination \:is\:4m/s}}}

Extra Info

  • A collision is an event in which two bodies exert forces on each other in a relatively short period of time.
  • Collisions can be both - elastic or inelastic
  • A collision in which both momentum and kinetic energy are conserved is called an elastic collision .
  • A collision in which there's loss of energy involved is called an inelastic collision
