Weight of fluid displaced = Apparent decrease in weight = 1.5 - 0.9 = 0.6 kgf
Mass of fluid displaced = 0.6 kgf
Volume of solid = mass/density = (0.6/(1.2×103) = 0.5 × 10-3 /m3
Weight of the solid in the air = 1.5 kgf
Mass of solid = 1.5 kg
Density of solid = mass/density = 1.5/(0.5 x 10-3) = 3×103 kg/m3
Thus,
Relative density = (3 x 103 kg/m3 )/ (1 x 103 kg/m3) = 3
