Step-by-step explanation:

Drawing the picture.

  • Let us draw the tower AB first and label it 15 m high.

  • Draw another point C at a distance of 8 m (labelled) from the point B.

  • Now join A and C, and B and C

  • Consider, AC as the rope.

Solution.

We see that \triangle ABC is a right-angled triangle. Thus by Pythagorean theorem, we can write

\quad AC^{2}=AB^{2}+BC^{2}

\Rightarrow AC^{2}=15^{2}+8^{2}

\Rightarrow AC^{2}=225+64=289

\Rightarrow AC^{2}=17^{2}

\Rightarrow AC=17

Therefore the rope is of length 17 m.

Since the cost of rope is ₹ 12.50 per metre, the total cost of the rope of 17 metres is ₹ (12.50 × 7) = 212.50.

Answer.

  • Length of the rope is 17 metres.

  • Total cost of the rope is ₹ 212.50.
