ABCD is a Square so, AB=BC=CD=AD ........................(1)

In trian. ABC

AB²+BC² = AC²         [By Pythagoras Theorem]

So, 2AB² = AC²      [By Eqn (1)]

      2AB² = (16)²        [Given AC=12 cm]

     so, AB² = 256/2

           AB² = 128

           AB = √128

So, Area of Square = side² = (√128)² = 128 cm²
