Answer:

Though thermoset plastics and thermoplastics sound similar, they have very different properties and applications. Understanding the performance differences can help you make better sourcing decisions and improve your product designs.

The primary physical difference is that thermoplastics can be remelted back into a liquid, whereas thermoset plastics always remain in a permanent solid state. Think of thermoplastics as butter – butter can be melted and cooled multiple times to form various shapes. Thermoset is similar to bread in that once the final state is achieved, any additional heat would lead to charring.

Answer:

Plastic is also a polymer like synthetic fiber. It is having a linear or cross-linked arrangement for the units. Based on their molecular bond and reaction to heat, they can be classified as thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic.

  • Thermoplastic - Plastics that get deformed easily on heating and can be bent easily are known as thermoplastics. They can be synthesized by the process called addition polymerization and have low melting points and low tensile strength. Eg : Polythene and PVC

  • Thermosetting plastic - Plastics which when molded once can't be softened by heating are called thermosetting plastics. They can be synthesized by condensation polymerization have high melting points and tensile strength. Eg : Bakelite and Melamine.
