Given : 3 baskets of capacity 100 fruits each contain oranges and apples into ratio  of

3:2

1:4

all these three baskets are empty into simple big basket

To  find  :   the proportion of oranges and apples

Solution:

As each basket contains 100  fruits

3:2   => oranges = (3/5) * 100 = 60   and apples = ( 2/5) * 100 = 40

3:1    => oranges = (3/4) * 100 = 75   and apples = ( 1/4) * 100 =    25

1:4   => oranges =   (1/5) * 100 = 20   and apples = ( 4/5) * 100 = 80

Hence Total oranges  = 60 + 75 + 20  =  155

total Apples = 40 + 25 + 80  = 145

Ratio  =  155 : 145

= 31  : 29

proportion of oranges and apples = 31  : 29
