Answer :

Mass of methane = 24g

We have to find the amount of CO₂ produced by the combustion of given amount of methane.

Balanced chemical reaction :

  • CH₄ + 2O₂ ➙ CO₂ + 2H₂O

Stoichiometry deals with the calculation of masses of the reactants and the products involved in a chemical reaction.

It is clear from the reaction that 1 mole (16g) of methane gives 1 mole (44g) of carbon dioxide at STP.

Hence, 24g of methane will give = (?)

  • W = 24 × 44/16
  • W = 66g

Therefore, 66g of carbon dioxide will be produced by the complete combustion of 24g of methane.

Cheers!
