then 3x+6=40
then 3x= 34
then x = 34/3...
then now x , the first number is 34/3.
then second number x+2 is 40 /3
then third number x+4 is or will be 46/3
now we are going to check
( 34/3)+ (40/3)+ (46/3)
now. in denominator all are same so 40+46+34/3.
it gives 120 /3.
that is 40
