Aqueous solution of Na2S2O3 on reaction with Cl2 gives NaHSO4.

The reaction is as follows:

Na2S2O3+4Cl2+5H2O→2NaHSO4+8HCl

The correct statement is option (4)All are correct.

GIVEN

Chemical reaction -

Na₂S₂O₃ + 4Cl₂ + 5H₂O ---------> 2NaHSO₄ + 8 HCl

TO FIND

Which of the statement among the given option is correct?

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

We apply the mole ratio to solve.

(1) 0.3 mole of Na₂S₂O₃ is required to react completely with 0.12 mole of Cl₂.

From the balanced equation, we can observe that,

4 moles of Cl₂ require 1 mole of Na₂S₂O₃.

So,

0.12 mole of Cl₂ requires, (1/4)×0.12 = 0.3 moles of Na₂S₂O₃

Hence, Statement 1 is correct.

(2) 0.24 mole of HCI will form from 0.12 mole of Cl₂, on complete reaction.

From the balanced chemical reaction,

Moles of HCl produced from 4 moles of Cl₂ = 8 moles

So,

Moles of HCl produced from 0.12 mole of Cl₂ = 2× 0.12 = 0.24 moles.

Hence, Statement 2 is correct.

(3) 1.5 mole of water is required for the reaction of 0.12 mole of Cl2

From the balanced chemical reaction,

Moles of H₂O required for 4 moles of Cl₂ = 5

So,

moles of H₂O required for 0.12 moles of H₂O = (5/4)× 0.12 = 1.5moles

Hence, Statement 3 is also correct.

Hence, The correct answer is option(4)
