Corrosion can be defined as the process through which refined metals are converted into more stable compounds such as metal oxides, metal sulfides, or metal hydroxides. The rusting of iron involves the formation of iron oxides via the action of atmospheric moisture and oxygen.
Some metals like silver, copper, and iron get colored coating over them when they are exposed to air. This process is called Corrosion and in particularly Iron's case it is called rusting. Iron also develops “Green rust”when it is kept in oxygen deprived surroundings like say under water.
Hope it helps you!!

Answer:
It is defined as the natural process that causes the transformation of pure metals to undesirable substances when they react with substances like water or air. This reaction causes damage and disintegration of the metal starting from the portion of the metal exposed to the environment and spreading to the entire bulk of the metal.
