3. There has been a substantial decline in the poverty ratios in India from about 54.9 per cent in 1973 to 36 per cent in 1993. The proportion of people below poverty line further came down to about 26 percent in 2000. However the number of poor people are constant around 320 million for a long time.

  • (i)The NREGAs 2005 was passed in September 2005.
  • (ii)The actprovides 100 days assured employment to every rural household in 200 districts.
  • (iii)The central government will also establish National Employment Guarantee funds
