open cast -----Open cast = Open pit.Literally, you dig a bigpit from the surface, downwards, and extract rock that contains the mineral you are chasing. If you google “open cast mining” in Google Image you will see lots of big holes in the ground.

shaft mining --Actually this isn’t a Mechanical Engineering question, it is Mining Engineering. However, the answer is that there are two major types of mines.A pit mine, also calledan strip mine is whereyou remove the trees, plants and topsoil and dig out the ore or coal from the surface. The deepest open pit mine is in theUSA and is 3900 feet deep. It is a copper mine.A shaft mine, also called a deep mine is where you dig holes (shafts) into the ground with branchesoff the shaft (drifts) to reach the coal or ore. The deepest shaft mine is 12,600 feet deep. It is a diamond mine in South Africa. A drift mine is a variation on a shaft mine where horizontal shafts are excavated into the side of an outcrop of coal or ore.

but actually open pit and shaft mining is not suitable for comparing ...

Tajeshsahu: but it's not comparable

biach: While shaft mining is a method of doing mining, drilling is one of the processes involved. Lets guide you through :) Shaft - a cylindrical long vertical tunnel that takes you underground. ... So, once you've dug thisshaft deep enough ( enough to take you nearest to the ore) you can go inside by a lot of methods.
biach: open-cast or open cut mining is a surface mining technique of extracting rock or minerals from the earth by their removal from an open pit or borrow.

Answer:

Shaft mining is another name for underground mining, which is defined as mining by sinking a shaft. In open cast mining, the overburden is removed in order to extract the deposit, which in an aerial view resembles a pit.

Explanation:

Difference between open cast mining and shaft mining:

  1. Excavating a vertical or almost vertical tunnel from the top down in a situation where there is originally no access to the bottom is known as shaft mining or shaft sinking. Surface mining includes open-pit, open-cast, and open-cut mining.
  2. When the excavation's top is above ground, it is referred to as a shaft; when it is below ground, it is referred to as a Winze or a sub-shaft. When commercially viable ore or rock resources are located close to the surface, that is, when the overburden is comparatively thin or the material of interest is structurally unsuitable for tunneling, open-pit mines are used.
  3. Although most modern mine shafts are vertical, a shaft may also be inclined (between 45 and 90 degrees to the horizontal). Shaft sinking is one of the most challenging techniques of development because of the limited space, gravity, groundwater, and technical procedures involved. Quarry is a term used to describe open-pit mines that generate dimension stone and building materials. Open-pit mines are typically expanded until the mineral supply is depleted or further mining becomes unprofitable due to a rising ratio of overburden to ore.

Thus, Surface mining methods include open-pit mining and opencast mining. Excavating a mine shaft from the top down is known as shaft mining or shaft sinking.
