Answer: Hormones are chemical compounds found in living organisms that regulate some functions in the organism and stimulate growth.

Hormones                           Functions

Animal hormones

1) Growth hormone     - growth hormone stimulates growth in tissues and  

                                    organs of the body.

2) Insulin                  -      this hormone regulates the blood sugar levels.

3) Oestrogen               - This is female hormone responsible for reproduction,

                                  regulating menstruation and onset of menopause.

4) Prolactin                -  this is the hormone that is stimulates production of

                                   breast milk in females and enables breastfeeding.

5) Aldosterone        - hormone that regulates fluid and electrolyte balance in

                               the body.

6) Antidiuretic hormone      - promotes retention of water in the body loss by

                                         prevention of water loss from the body

Thyroid stimulating, follicle stimulating hormone, leuitinizing hormone, oxytocin.

Plant hormones

1) Auxin                  - this is hormone aids in the elongation of cells of a plant  

                               and bud formation.        

2) Cytokinins       -  this hormone help in shoot formation and cell division.

3) Ethylene          -   Affects cell growth, shape and ripening of fruits.

4) Giberrelins      - Promotes cell elongation

5) Cytokinins     - these hormones aid in cell division and delay natural aging

                         process of plants.

Other plant hormones include; nitric oxide, karrikins, strigolactones, jasmonates, triacotanol and many others.
