When Evelyn was advised to go to a deaf school since she was deaf she felt that her future was then dark and over. She had now become a disabled child who could not have easy access to normal life.

On learning about her deafness due to gradual nerve damage, Evelyn Glennie, instead of giving up, decided to lead a normal life like other children, and pursue her dream of learning music. Explanation:

in the chapter " The sound of music part 1" Evelyn Glennie says "Everything suddenly looked black" when it was discovered by a specialist that her hearing was severely impared as a result of gradual nerve damage. Her parents were advised that she should be fitted with hearing aids and sent to a school for the deaf.

Discovering her deafness, she felt that her life is in a complete darkness and she never would be able to hear music. After sometime Ron Forbes, a percussionist sported her potential and told her to feel the upper tunes from her upper body and lower tunes from her lower body.
