Article 51 (A) of the Constitution of India lays down the Fundamental Duties of the citizen. Items (6),(7) and (9) in Article 51(A) prescribe the duties related to the preservation of cultural heritage.

These duties are as under:

To value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture;

To protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife, and to have compassion for living creatures;
