Given Question :-

  • Find coordinates of midpoint of segment joining points P(-7 , -4) and Q(-2,8).

Answer

Given :-

  • A line segment joining points P(-7 , -4) and Q(-2,8).

To Find :-

  • Midpoint of PQ.

Formula used :-

Midpoint Formula:-

Let us consider a line segment joining the points

\sf \: A(x_1,y_1) \: and \: B(x_2,y_2)

Let C(x, y) be the midpoint of AB, then coordinates of midpoint C is given by

\bf \:( x, y) = (\dfrac{x_1+x_2}{2} , \dfrac{y_1+y_2}{2} )

⟼ Let R(x, y) be the midpoint of line segment joining the points P(-7 , -4) and Q(-2,8).

☆ Now, coordinates of R is given by

\bf \:( x, y) = (\dfrac{x_1+x_2}{2} , \dfrac{y_1+y_2}{2} )

where,

\bf \:  ⟼ x_1 = - 7 ,y_1 = - 4 ,x_2= - 2 ,y_2=8

☆ So, we get

\bf \:( x, y) = (\dfrac{ - 7 - 2}{2} , \dfrac{ - 4 + 8}{2} )

\bf \:( x, y) = ( - \dfrac{9}{2} , 2 )

\large{\boxed{\boxed{\bf{Hence,  \: the \:  midpoint \:  is \:  ( - \dfrac{9}{2}  , 2 ) }}}}
