Step-by-step explanation:

2.5 + 3.25 + 3.5 =9.25

9.25/3=3.083

or

5/2 + 13/4 + 7/2

lcm

10/4+13/4+14/4= 9.25 /3

Solution :-

→ Consumption of oil in first month = 2(1/2) litre = (5/2) litre

→ Consumption of oil in second month = 3(1/4) litre = (13/4) litre

→ Consumption of oil in third month = 3(1/2) litre = (7/2) litre

so,

→ Total consumption of oil in three months = (5/2) + (13/4) + (7/2) = (5 * 2 + 13 + 7*2) /4 = (37/4) litre .

then,

→ Required average = Total consumption /Total months = (37/4) / 3 = (37/4) * (1/3) = (37/12) = 3(1/12) litre (Ans.)

Method 2) :-

Total consumption of oil in three months :- → 2(1/2) + 3(1/4) + 3(1/2)

adding whole number parts and fractional parts together,

→ (2 + 3 + 3) + (1/2 + 1/4 + 1/2)

since (1/2 + 1/2 = 1,

→ 8 + 1 + (1/4)

→ 9(1/4)

→ (37/4)

then,

→ The average monthly consumption of oil in a family = (37/4) * (1/3) = (37/12) = 3(1/12) litre (Ans.)
