Answer:

(a) if 144 is divided by 120 we get 1 as quotient and 24 as remainder.

then divide 120 by 24 we get 5 as quotient and 0 remainder.

so, the HCF of 120 and 144 is 5

(b) if 140 is devided by 105 we get 1 as quotient and 35 as remainder.

then divide 105 by 35 we get 3 as quotient and 0 as remainder.

so,the HCF of 105 and 140 is 3

Answer:

1 .using Euclid's division lemma

a = bq+r

here a = 144 & b = 120 because a >b always

144 = 120 x 1 + 24

120 = 24 x 5 + 0

Here last divisor is 24

hence,

HCF of 120 and 144 is 24

2. using Euclid's division lemma

a = bq + r

here a = 140 & b = 105 because a > b always

140 = 105 x 1 + 35

105 = 35 x 3 + 0

Here last divisor is 35

Hence,

HCF of 105 and 140 is 35
