3. Find the value of x + y, if 5x – 2y = 4 and x + 8y = 26. answer please

Answer:

5x-2y=4—(1)

x+8y=26—(2)

multiply 2 eq by 5 we get

5x+40y=130—(3)

subtract eq 1 and 3

5x-2y-5x-40y=4-130

-42y=-126

y=126/42

y=3

putting the value of y in eq 2

x+24=26

x=2

x+y

3+2=5
