ANSWER:

  • Zeroes of the given polynomial are 4 and (-2).

GIVEN:

  • P(x) = x²-2x-8

TO FIND:

  • Zeroes and to verify the relationship between the zeroes and coefficients.

SOLUTION:

=> x²-2x-8 = 0

=> x²-4x+2x-8 = 0

=> (x²-4x)+(2x-8) = 0

=> x(x-4)+2(x-4) = 0

=> (x-4)(x+2) = 0

Either (x-4) = 0

=> x = 4

Either (x+2) = 0

=> x = (-2)

Sum of zeroes:

= 4+(-2)

= 2

=> -(-2)/2 = -(Coefficient of x)/Coefficient of x²

Product of zeros:

= 4(-2)

=> -8/1 = Constant term/Coefficient of x²
