Following are two instances of the old man's unselfish nature:

Explanation:

1.

  • The old man is building a bridge on a very dangerous river without anyone asking him to do so or without the greed of getting any money in return.

  • He is solely doing this to help others.

2.

  • When the pilgrim asks the old man why is he building this bridge, he replies that the tides of this river have not been a problem for him but they may harm someone else.

  • He says that he is building this bridge so that others could pass the river easily.
