This is just a way of putting forward the statement so as to cause confusion, whereas it is actually a very simple situation.

This is just a way of putting forward the statement so as to cause confusion, whereas it is actually a very simple situation.Total bill is Rs70. They pay 75. Rs70 goes for the bill payment. Rs 3 comes back to them. And Rs 2 goes to the waiter as the tip. 70+3+2=75

This is just a way of putting forward the statement so as to cause confusion, whereas it is actually a very simple situation.Total bill is Rs70. They pay 75. Rs70 goes for the bill payment. Rs 3 comes back to them. And Rs 2 goes to the waiter as the tip. 70+3+2=75Now the confusion is being caused by mixing up things. If you say that the net payment of each person becomes Rs24 after getting 1 rupee back, then the total net payment should also be accounted as Rs72 only and not 75. Here is the catch. If each is paying Rs24, then total payment is only Rs72, out of which 70 goes towards bill payment and 2 as the tip. 70+2=72.
