3. Give reasons:
a. Tea cannot be planted in plains.
b. Soil is ploughed before sowing seeds.
Answers
Because it's too dry, too cold, the soil is not fertile and there's not enough humidity. When you try to grow tea in a plain down the mountains, the area won't be suitable either, and trees will be attacked by insects.
The soil should be ploughed thoroughly before sowing of the seed as this helps the roots to penetrate deep into the soil. Another advantage of this method is that the particles of weeds will be uprooted completely from the soil. This also helps in the growth of beneficial bacteria.
Answer: Tea plants cannot withstand water logging. Since the plains retain water it may lead to water logging problems which will result in low yields.Plus when tea plants are grown in hilly areas the cool weather adds to the flavour of tea plants.
Ploughing of soil facilitates air circulation in the soil thus accelerating the growth of seeds (photosynthesis depends on air)
