a) The cell is called the structural and functional unit of life as all living organisms are made up of cells. ... Furthermore, cells provide form and structure, process nutrients, and convert it into useable energy. Multicellular organisms have specialized cells that perform specific functions.

b)The plant cell is rigid because it contains a cell wall that is absent in animal cells. The cell wall is made up of proteins, cellulose fiber, and polysaccharides. The cell wall gives the plant cell its shape.

(a) The cell is called the structural and functional unit of life because certain basic functions like respiration, growth, reproduction etc are performed by the cell and these functions are essential for the survival of living organisms.

(b) Plant cells are more rigid than the animal cells because they have definite shape due to a rigid cell wall around them. In comparison of animal cell, have a cell membrane as their outer cover.
