- Manoj Kumar’s real name is Harikrishna Giri Goswami. He was born on July 24, 1937.
- He was born to a Brahmin family in Abbottabad, a town of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, which was a part of India before partition. Abbottabad is now located within the borders of Pakistan, and is the same place where the most feared terrorist- Osama Bin Laden was killed.
- Manoj Kumar was only 10 when his family moved to Delhi. He did his graduation from Hindu College, Delhi University.
- As a youth, he admired Bollywood superstar Dilip Kumar so much that he decided to name himself Manoj Kumar after Dilip's character in Shabnam.
- He made his debut in a film named Fashion in 1957, but the movie did not bring him any kind of laurels. Manoj landed his first leading role in Kaanch Ki Gudia (1960) opposite Sayeeda Khan.
