Bhakti Movement in Maharashtra. The spread of the Bhakti movement in Maharashtra inculcated the spirit of oneness among the Marathas. The main teachings of the leaders were Bhakti or devotion to God and equality of all believers before God without any distinction of class or birth.

They also believed in the idea that god resides in the hearts of all the people. The saints in Maharashtra did not believe in ritualism and caste system. They even did not believe in the idea that world should be renounced in order to gain salvation
