Given,

height of ship = 15ft above sea level

Angle of elevation to the top of the cliff = 70 degrees.

Angle of depression at its base = 50 degrees

To find,

Height of the cliff

Distance between the cliff and ship

Solution,

Let 'd' be the distance of the cliff from the ship,

tan 70 = (h-15)/d

and

tan 50 =15/d

d = 15/ tan 50

= 12.59 m

h -15 = d tan 70

= 12.59 * 2.75

= 34.58 ft

h = 34.58 + 15

h = 49 .6 ft

Thus, the height of the cliff is 49.6ft and the distance between the cloff and ship is 12.59m
