Answer:
There are 2 girls in the photograph
Explanation:
The poem ‘A Photograph’ is written by Shirley Toulson. In this poem, she recalls her mother and her memories while looking at a childhood photograph when her mother was twelve years old or so.
She has been deceased twelve years ago and she cannot explain her grief on her mother’s loss. The poet's mother is honoured in the poem. She is looking at an old, material picture of her mother. Three girls can be seen in the image, with the middle one being the eldest and tallest.
When she was around twelve years old, it is her mother. Her two younger cousins, Betty and Dolly, who are sitting next to her on both sides, are holding her hands. On their vacation to the beach, they went paddling. The picture was then taken by her uncle. Her mother's endearing face caught the poet's attention. Because of how glancingly the sea touched her feet, it was clear that while she changed over time, the sea did not. After 230 years, her mother would still chuckle when she saw the picture. The poet would be compelled to stare at the picture, and she would explain to the poet how their parents would prepare them for the beach vacation. Her mother's favourite childhood memories were beach vacations, but the poet's favourite memory was of seeing her laugh. Both of them lost something they greatly valued, but they are unable to relive that experience.
Those wonderful times were now only memories. The poet's mother had passed away twelve years prior, which is the same amount of time since the time the portrait was taken. She is upset by her mother's absence, but she is unable to express it.
