Answer:
Let x be the litres of water added
=> 16×6.75=(16+x)4.50
=> 108=72+4.5x
=> 4.5x=108-72=36
=> x=36/4.5
=> x=8
Another method
=> 16×6.75/4.50
=> 108/4.5=24
Water to be added
=> 24-16 =8 Ltr

Answer:

8 liters of water should be added to 16 liters of milk to reduce its cost to 4.50 Rs

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Let x be the liters of water to be added to milk so as to reduce its cost to 4.50 Rs
  • The cost price of 16 liters of milk = 16 x 6.75

         We get the cost price of 16 liters of milk = 108

  • Now we have to find what amount of water should be added to 16 liters of milk so as to reduce its cost to 4.50 Rs
  • The value of 16 + x liters =  ( 16 + x) * 4.50
  • Now equate the cost of 16 liters of milk and 16+x liters of mixture

       Cost of 16 liters of milk = cost of 16+x liters of mixture

        108=72+4.5x

        4.5x=108-72

        4.5x=36

         x= \frac{36}{4.5}

          x=8

Therefore the amount of water to be added to 16 liters of milk so as to reduce its cost to 4.50 Rs is 8 liters
