To calculate the Ionization potential we know that the ionization potential is the potential which is calculated from the orbit n=1 to the n= infinity and we know the formuale of energy:

Energy E =  13.6 × z², where z is the orbits.

Now, z²= 20/13.6............(1)

The formulae of the excitation energy is given as follow:

Thus, excitation potential  V=  -13.6 × (z² / 4 – z² / 1).

=-13.6 × (5/13.6 – 20/13.6).

= 15 V which is the first excitation potential.
