Answer:

Question :-

In a bag there are 5 red balls, 4 yellow balls and 3 white balls. Find the probability of

a. getting a red ball

b. Not getting a white ball

Answer :-

a) The probability of getting a red ball is  \frac{5}{12}

b) The probability of not getting a white ball is  \frac{3}{4}

Given :-

  • Red balls = 5
  • Yellow balls = 4
  • white balls = 3

To find :-

Find the probability of

a. getting a red ball

b. Not getting a white ball

Solution :-

Total number of balls = 5+4+3 = 12.

 \boxed{ \large{probability =  \frac{number \: of \: favourable \: outcomes}{number \: of \: possible \: outcomes} }}

a) Getting a red ball

Number of favourable outcomes = 5

 \implies \:  probability \: (getting \: a \: red \: ball) =  \frac{5}{12}  \\  \\

Hence,

The probability of getting a red ball is  \frac{5}{12}

b) not getting a white ball

Number of favourable outcomes = 5 + 4 = 9

 \implies \: probability \: (not \:  getting \: a \: white \: ball) =  \frac{9}{12}  \\  \\  \implies \: probability \: (not \:  getting \: a \: white \: ball) =  \frac{3}{4}

Hence,

The probability of not getting a white ball is  \frac{3}{4}
