3. In a plant, smooth seeds (S) are dominant over wrinkled seeds(s) and green seeds (G) are dominant over yellow seeds (g). A plant homozygous for smooth and green seed is crossed with a plant having wrinkled and yellow seeds. The Fi offspring are self crossed to produce F2 generation. If a total of 160 offspring are produced, how many plants are expected to be having wrinkled and green seeds in F2 generation, according to a typical mendelian cross? (A) 90 (B) 30 (C) 20 (D) 10

Correct answer will be option B

Explanation:

  • If a homozygous smooth, green plant(SSGG) crossed with  homozygous wrinkled, yellow plant(ssgg) in F1 generation heterozygous smooth green plant(SsGg) produced.
  • If we self crossed the F1 plant, the different type of plant will generate in following ratio in F2 generation.

9:3:3:1 where 9- smooth green plant

                                    3- smooth yellow plant

                                    3-  wrinkled green plant

                                     1-   wrinkled yellow plant

  • according to question, total 160 plant generated in F2 offspring , so the number of plant with wrinkled and green seed will be= 160×\frac{3}{16}=30
  • so, correct option will be option B. 30
