Percentage

The word per cent means hundred for every hundred.

it is represented symblicly using the % sign.

For example :

  • 20/100 = 20 %

  • 50/100 = 50 %

How can we convert fraction into denominator when it is not 100 ?

➡ to convert a fraction into percent when the denominator is not hundred, just multiply the fraction by 100 and put the percentage symbol when the result obtained.

For example express 3/4 as percentage.

a) 3/4

Multiply it by 100

= 3/4 × 100

which is equal to 3 × 25 = 75%

Thus, 3/4 is equal to 75%

Additional Information:

In the previous standards we have learnt ,

  • Meaning of percent.
  • Percent as a fraction.
  • Percent as a ratio.
  • Finding of a percentage of any given number.
  • Some word problems of percentage .

And many more things we have learnt in the previous standards .

Let's recall everything we had learnt in the previous standard

1. Meaning of percent.

One part in every hundred is known as percentage.

2] Percent as a fraction

A fraction percent is a value of out of 100% which can be in a mixed fraction or in a fraction form.

3] Percent as a ratio

A percent is a ratio whose second term is 100.

We can find percentage of any ratio given to us.

4] Finding a percentage of any given number

We can find percentage of any given number.

For example:

If the question is given that the total number of trees of shruti , then the total number of trees of princy

Total Number of trees of Shruti = 60

Total Number of trees of Princy = 42.

So if we need to find the percentage of prince's trees we can divide it .

Like ,

 \frac{42}{60} \times 100

= 70%

So , the total percentage of princy's trees = 70%

5) Word problems of percentage

There are lots of word problems of percentage too.

This question is of an example.
