(b) potential difference between points A and B and

For the series AB and BC

r(ac) = r(ab) + r(bc)

2 \: ohms + 4 \: ohms = 6 \: ohms

For the pareller AC and PQ

 \frac{1}{r}  =  \frac{1}{r(ac)}  +  \frac{1}{r(pq)}

 \frac{1}{r}   = ( \frac{1}{6} +  \frac{1}{3} ) =  \frac{1}{2}  \\ r = 2

R = 2 ohms.
