GIVEN

• The price of 3 chairs and 2 tables is Rs. 4500.

• The price of 5 chairs and 3 tables is Rs. 7000

TO DETERMINE

The price of 2 chairs and 2 tables.

EVALUATION

Let price of each chair = Rs x and price of each table = Rs y

Now it is given that the price of 3 chairs and 2 tables is Rs. 4500

3x + 2y = 4500 - - - - - - (1)

Again price of 5 chairs and 3 tables is Rs. 7000

5x + 3y = 7000 - - - - - - (2)

Now 3 × Equation 1 - 2 × Equation 2 gives

9x - 10x = 13500 - 14000

$\implies \sf{ - x = - 500}$

$\implies \sf{ x = 500}$

From Equation 1 we get

1500 + 2y = 4500

$\implies \sf{ 2y = 3000}$

$\implies \sf{ y = 1500}$

Hence the required price of 2 chairs and 2 tables

= Rs ( 2x + 2y )

= Rs ( 1000 + 3000 )

= Rs 4000
