Answer:

If he saved 1 / 4 of money, he has:

1 - 1 / 4 = 4 / 4 - 1 / 4 = 3 / 4 of a sum of money.

a)  4 / 9 of 3 / 4 = ( 4 / 9 ) * ( 3 / 4 ) = 4 * 3 / 9 * 4 = 12 / 36 = 12 / 12 * 3 = 1 / 3

He spend 1 / 3 money on suitcase.

b)  3 / 4 - 1 / 3 = 3 * 3 / 4 * 3 - 4 * 1 / 4 * 3 = 9 / 12 - 4 / 12 = 5 / 12

5 / 12 of his money was left

Answer:

  • Fraction of his money was spent on the suitcase = \frac{1}{3}
  • Fraction of his money was left = \frac{5}{12}

Explanation:

Given, \frac{1}{4} of his money were saved,

Thus, remaining money after saving= (1-\frac{1}{4})\text{ of the total money}=\frac{3}{4}\text{ of the total money}

  • Now, four by nine of the remaining money were spent on a suitcase,

So, the total money spent on suitcases  = \frac{4}{9}\text{ of the remaining money}=\frac{4}{9}\times \frac{3}{4}\text{ of the total money}=\frac{1}{3}\text{ of the total money}

∴ Fraction of his money was spent on the suitcase = \frac{1}{3}

  • Since, the money he have left finally = Total money - ( Total saving + Total spending on suitcases )=(1-\frac{1}{4}-\frac{1}{3})\text{ of the total money}=\frac{12-3-4}{12}\text{ of the total money}=\frac{5}{12}\text{ of the total money}

∴ Fraction of his money was left = \frac{5}{12}
