Narmada basin is formed in the Narmada River which rises from the Amarkantak Hills in Madhya Pradesh.
The major tributaries of the river are short and generally forms right angle while mixing with the main stream.
Before entering the Gulf of Khambhat, it forms an estuary.
Due to faulting, it flows towards the west.
